Sledding Old Main

It finally snowed up here, and stayed for more than one day! So we decided to go sledding down Old Main, but first we stopped at DI to find snow pants. :)

I found this awesome ugly vest, but Katherine didn't think I should buy it... maybe she was right :)

We only had one actual sled, so we found a cardboard box and a garbage bag, and folded the box into the bag for a make-shift sled. I didn't get a picture, but it actually worked pretty good!

Saw this by Main. :)

This is what we do.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day... school, homework, work, lovely. ha. ha.

So I love pinterest... like a lot.. I got this valentines idea from there. http://www.skiptomylou.org/2011/01/25/kids-classroom-valentines/

Adorable right? So I tried it out, not to shabby I'd say.

Mustache lollipops!

Britni with a mustache!

Katherine and her 'stache!

So... This is an email my ASL professor (Jan Kelley-King) sent out last night, I find it quite funny, so I had to post it. :) (Warning: it's long, so don't worry about reading it if you don't want to.)

Happy Valentines Day !

I have overheard some of you in class getting all depressed about V-Day, calling it S.A.D. (Single Awareness Day).     So, you don’t have a steady sweetheart, or even an unsteady sweetheart, YET.    You know that in all likelihood, you are going to be married one day and probably it will happen before you are 35 years old.   If all works out, you’ll be married for at least 50 years.   If you are married earlier, you’ll have even more than 50 years of Valentines Days with the man/woman you love.   Given that perspective, these single times you are experiencing are RARE and fleeting moments of freedom.   You have very few Valentines Days left as a free man or woman.

You will one day soon be sharing a romantic evening with your loved one and a two-year-old who is setting the napkins on fire with the romantic candle you put in the middle of the table for a little ambiance.  Before you know it, you will celebrate Valentines Days with your sweetheart, a six-year-old, a four-year-old AND the two-year-old, watching them have food fights over the romantic candle and yelling the first words of all children born after the first one, “MINE! and I’M TELLING!”.

Yes, there are babysitters, but it isn’t easy to find an unattached teenager or college student willing to baby sit on Valentines Day, plus it makes you feel kind of horrible leaving your children on a special night, so before you know it, you make Valentines Day a family affair.    If you are smart, you will have at least one Valentines Day that is shared just between you and your significant other prior to marriage and childbirth, and if you are really wise, you’ll have five or six.   Being observant of Utah traditions, however, my guess is that when you find that significant other, you’ll set the wedding date shortly after you meet him or her, get married, and you’ll forget about birth control and have a child within the first year of marriage and one every two years after that.   Being aware of those odds, you should savor these S.A.D. Valentines Days.    As you are savoring, here are a few ideas for how to spend that evening:

  • Send some Valentines to others who fall into that “single” category.   Send them anonymously or admit to it.   Do this the old fashioned way – get some construction paper and glue and try to remember how you cut out perfectly-shaped hearts with blunt, child-safe, scissors.

  • Make Valentine cookies and deliver them to your neighbors or to the employees who are working the night shift at places like convenience stores, grocery stores and fast food restaurants – I’ll bet even you are having more fun than they are.

  • Send a Valentine or “slip” a Valentine to a guy or girl from one of your classes or apt. complex that you think is cool, nice, cute, sweet (insert other descriptors as appropriate).   It will take some planning…slip it into his/her backpack.   Leave it on the lecture podium in one of your classes with his/her name on it and the teacher will have to call him/her up to get it.  Slip it under the door, etc.

  • Cut out a ton of hearts from construction paper and go glue them all over someone’s windows and doors or on their car.

  • Invite friends over for a movie and popcorn.   Hand out invitations to students in your class, your apt. building or dormitory, inviting them to meet someplace that night and have pot-luck dinner.   Rent a funny movie or even a popular cartoon.   If you invite people in your ASL class, host a silent, signing only, pot-luck dinner.

  • Offer to baby sit for someone who has high-maintenance children.

  • Make some Valentines and take them to people in an Assisted Living Center or who are in the hospital.   You can ask someone at the front desk of the assisted living center to direct you to those patients who do not have family members that visit often.   Take a balloon, flowers, or a card and visit with them.

  • Write a letter to some of your old elementary school or high school teachers,  telling them why they made a difference in your life.   You can probably get on the website of your old school and find their email addresses on the faculty list.

  • Make a Valentine for your Sign Language teacher telling her how wonderful she is and remember to include money or chocolate or both.

  • Study ahead or finish a project for a class that isn’t due until later in the semester – naaahhh --- you can come up with something better than that.

  • Do something absolutely crazy and embarrassing so that you will have good story material for your next assignment.    (ASL I students: You have to sign your most embarrassing moment story soon, ASL II students, you will be signing a joke and another story soon, so there you go!)

See, now aren’t those of you who are “spoken for”  and have dates totally jealous that you are going to miss out on all of this single “S.A.D”  fun??! !

7:30?

This is how I usually feel.
My English class is at 8:30 every MWF. I am not a morning person. But for some reason one day I was... apparently. I got up one Wednesday morning, got ready for class. In a really good mood. Got to the bus stop early (Yay!) Got to the building my class is in early (also yay!) It's on the opposite end of campus, and usually takes around 10-15 minutes to get there.  So I'm just chillin' in the hall waiting for the class before us to get out. I look up at the clock on the wall and it says 7:20. I just laugh to myself and think someone ought to fix that. Then I get my phone out... ya.. it also says 7:20... ugh. I got to class over an hour early! What was I thinking?? How come I didn't notice earlier?!?! At this point there's no chance of going back home, because by the time I'd get there it'd be about time to head back to class. Lucky for me the library is close by, so I went there and took a nap. (I love the library... I probably take 2 or 3 naps there a week... haha. Pathetic? Yes I know.:) )  I had to present in English that day, and I had a test in ASL. Maybe that's why I was so anxious to get there. Guess it's better than being late.  Later that day I was thinking about it, and remembered, I distinctly recall thinking to my self, at the bus stop: "Wow. there's not a lot of people waiting for the bus today" and as I walked to the building: "Huh. I never noticed the sun looking that pretty when I walk to class."  Uh duh. That's because you've never gone to class at 7 in the morning you dork. Ah well. It's funny to laugh at now.

G-5

My house:)

We actually have a front porch! ha
Our super boring front room... I found this idea on Pinterest, but I need to find some cheap cloths pins before I can do it.

My dad and Heidi set us up with a DVD player and projector to watch movies on:)

Our messy kitchen.
Entrance to my room, it's just to the left when you walk in the front door.
my bed
Closet, with the cute umbrella I bought :) ohh and the little painting is an idea from Pinterest too :)
The vanity.
toilet and shower are separate from the vanity, which is very nice.
I'm spoiled, I know... :] It's so nice having your own room, but I think it would be more fun to have all 5 other roommates in your apartment, just because it would be a lot more social.. But, Lyndsay is an awesome roommate, so it's all good.

the good, the bad.

Survived 2 days of classes! whoo! ;)
Monday I had English 1010- intro to writing, ASL 1, and Institute- BofM. They are all probably under 40 students, so that's nice!
Today I had Biology 1010, Human Development Across the Lifespan, and Ballroom Dance.  The institute gave us all free T-shirts and they call each Tuesday T-shirt Tuesday, so tons of the institute students are wearing them. It's kinda cool to see.

My English teacher is nice so far, I think she is a student working on her masters or something like that. I'm not sure how this class is going to go because I can't -in any sense of the idea- write creatively... I can write good essays where I have to prove or disprove a point, answer a question, or inform about a topic, but when it comes to creative writing, I've got nothing...

I miss my high school ASL class and teacher sooooo much! My teacher here is nice, but I'm in ASL 1 so the class is super simple since I already took two years of ASL in HS.. I talked to one of the ASL advisers before the school year started to see if I could get into a higher level class, but he said they like all their students to start off with ASL 1 for some reason. bummer. Our homework assignment is to be able to fingerspell our name by tomorrow... I've been able to fingerspell my name since elementary school.... ugh.

Institute was pretty good. My teacher gets off topic soo fast though... I doubt we'll ever finish a lesson.. haha. It's really strange being in a class with RMs and people who have kids almost as old as I am... It's weird because they all have so many more experiences than I do, and they know so much more about the scriptures and everything. I liked seminary better where everyone is in a closer range of ages, and we can relate to each other a lot easier.

Biology was dumb. There's probably between 300 and 400 students, which stinks. I decided I don't like lecture classes. It was super boring, and I'm not looking forward to spending the whole semester in it. :( I wish my HS Bio teacher could teach at USU too... Then the class would be awesome!

Human Development Across the LS (FCHD) was okay I guess. It's also a lecture hall kind of class- which I do not like at all.. At least the subject and the teacher are more interesting than in biology, so it's not quite as bad as that.

I am excited for Ballroom Dance, I love dancing, and everyone in the class seems pretty fun so far. :)

So there's the low down of my classes... ha. Hope I didn't bore you too badly.

Logan

I moved up to Logan Monday! I live in Old Farm, and I only have one roommate. She's awesome! Her name is Lyndsay Tillitson, and she's from Mackay, Idaho.

My apartment is really cute, and I'll post pictures sometime :) Mom and Dad helped me move up, then Heidi, Luke and the kids came to visit yesterday! Thanks everyone! Last night Lyndsay's friend Joe and a couple other guys invited us to go over to their apartment to make s'mores! They had bought a little BBQ grill and we re-shaped wire clothes hangers to make roasters. Instead of just using a plain hersey's bar, we used symphony bars -sooo much better! :) It was really fun! Tons of people that I graduated with are coming to USU for school! I just counted and there's at least 15 of us here from my high school graduating class!
